This is not about performing or being a professional singer, but rather a shared experience of collective sound healing in the present moment.
The unity of voices act as a form of guided meditation, providing an outlet to purge bottled up emotions, thus opening the gates for healing vibrations. She often uses different instruments & singing skills with therapeutic mantra chanting in a form of call and response to activate relaxation, calm the mind and nourish the soul.
In addition, she leads workshops to help cope with grief, anxiety, depression and many more ailments by administering sonic techniques to relieve stress, help find inner peace and express authenticity. For seniors, the workshops help with memory, cognition, expression, as well as general well being and are just plain fun for patients. Singer, songwriter and musician, Melanie Edwards, recently launched Musical Mending Workshops (Jan 2019) which can be curated for any specific healing modality, be it collectively or individually. In the wake of the pandemic, she humbly received a grant from the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs and MusiCares for the CoVid-19 Relief Fund, two grants from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (CAH) and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), in addition to a DC Small Business Recovery Microgrant gifted by Mayor Bowser and the DMPED, as well as an award by TheatreWashington, plus an emergency aid grant from Musicians Foundation towards her music career and community efforts. In addition, she is the resident pianist for Clyde’s Restaurant and has performed at Gypsy Sally’s, The Henley Park Hotel, Beacon Bar and Grill and Peruvian Ambassador Castilla’s Residence in Washington, DC. She has 24 years experience as a performing artist and expressive healer with several partner charities and organizations, such as: National Theatre DC, Children’s National Hospital and Smith Center for Healing and the Arts. She holds a master’s degree (MFA) in music from The Savannah College of Art and Design and is certified in Mental Health First Aid USA by the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare. She is a huge advocate for bridging the arts and sciences, starting her career in nuclear fission. Where she obtained her MFA in media and the performing arts. Edwards was awarded an artistic achievement fellowship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, In the fall of 2014, she collaborated with Tommy James, legendary pianist and music director of Duke Ellington Orchestra, in Kailua, Hawaii. Residency in Costa Rica and a two month scholarship for music at Arteles Creative Residency Program in Hameenkyro, Finland.

Melanie was awarded a full stipend research grant for songwriting at Can Serrat International Artist Residency in Barcelona, received grants for music and songwriting at Odysseys Artist She has traveled extensively, writing, recording and performing both internationally in France, Russia, Finland, Spain, Denmark, Thailand, Costa Rica and Peru, as well as domestically in California, Hawaii, Texas, North Carolina, Melanie Edwards is an award-winning singer, songwriter, pianist, violinist and music practitioner.Edwards has been nominated as Best Singer/Songwriter + Best Original Songwriting for The Independent Artist Network for the Music Arts.
